Maki-e, which is one of the most popular Japanese decorative techniques using lacquer, involves the application of metallic powders on a wooden surface coated with toxic sap. Japanese artisans must handle this substance carefully and demonstrate great skill to produce high-quality works of art. The glossy lacquered surface and vibrant metallic details create a sense of depth, adding aesthetic value to each piece decorated with this technique. The Ougi cover model was inspired by a painting on a Japanese lacquered box dating back to the early 19th century, which is preserved in a private collection. The half-moon shapes on the cover represent a fan, which is a cultural symbol associated with traditional Japan. The choice of the name "Ougi" for this cover model is very appropriate, as it means "fan" in Japanese and perfectly represents the Japanese cultural tradition.
