William Morris was a 19th century British artist, designer, writer, and socialist. Born in Walthamstow, England in 1834, Morris studied medieval history and English literature at Oxford University before becoming one of the main figures in the arts and crafts movement, a movement that aimed to promote craftsmanship and reform the interior design industry.
Morris founded the company Morris, Marshall, Faulkner & Co. (later known as Morris & Co.) in 1861, which produced high-quality textiles, wallpaper, furniture, and many other design products. In addition to his achievements in design, Morris was also a prolific writer, publishing numerous poems, novels, and essays on art, architecture, and society.
In addition to his artistic work, Morris was also a committed political activist, actively participating in the socialist movement and working to create a more equitable and egalitarian society. He died in Hammersmith, England in 1896.
